Masters and Doctoral Degrees with trAndeS certification

trAndeS offers a Certificate in Sustainable Development and Social Inequalities in the Andean Region, by FU Berlin and the PUCP. This certification will be given to the students that complete the MA and doctoral programs at PUCP that participate in trAndeS and comply with the requirements established by the program.

The students and doctoral candidates will analyze problems related to the achievement of the SDGs in the Andean region, with a comparative perspective towards other countries and regions in the world. The program of study involves taking courses and participating in other trAndeS activities, such as colloquiums, seminars, workshops, conferences and a research stay.

MA with trAndeS certification

The PUCP MA programs that participate in trAndeS are:

  • Anthropology
  • Biocomercio and Sustainable Development
  • Political Science and International Relations
  • Environmental Development
  • Human Development
  • Water Resource Management
  • Governance and Public Policy
  • Sociology

Structure of the certification

The trAndeS student must meet the following requirements as well as the requirements of the MA degree program in which they are enrolled:

  • Enrollment in 4 trAndeS courses: 2 mandatory courses, and 2 electives.
  • Participation in the series of trAndeS seminars, colloquiums and conferences.
  • A thesis aligned to the themes of the trAndeS research program.

Additionally, trAndeS students will have the opportunity to participate in a research stay in FU Berlin.

Financial requirements

The trAndeS certification has no cost. The student must cover the academic expenses of the Master program of his/her choice. 

trAndeS recognizes the academic excellence of the best candidates for the certification, providing the opportunity to apply for scholarships to cover the academic expenses of the program they are interested in. For more information about the MA students, please click here.

Doctorate with trAndeS certification

The doctoral program with trAndeS certification is open to all candidates from the social sciences that focus their research projects on the relationship between social inequalities and sustainable development in the Andean region. The projects must align to the themes defined by the trAndeS program.

The studies will take place in Lima, where the doctoral candidate will be enrolled in a regular doctoral program in PUCP. The participating doctorate programs are:

  • Anthropology
  • Economy
  • Political Science and Government
  • Sociology

In addition to working on an individual research project and complying with the curriculum of the selected doctoral program, the students will participate in the trAndeS program of study, that consists of two mandatory courses, and colloquia to present the results of their research. Students will also participate in the other academic activities of the program (workshops, summer school, international conference, etc.)

The students of the trAndeS doctoral program have joint advisors from FU Berlin and PUCP. Additionally, some of the doctoral candidates will be chosen for a research stay in Germany at the FU Berlin.

Once the students have fulfilled the requirements of the PUCP doctoral program, as well as those established by the trAndeS program, the student will receive a doctorate from the program where he/she was enrolled, and a Certification in Sustainable Development and Social Inequalities in the Andean Region, from FU Berlin and the PUCP.

Funding

The trAndeS certification has no cost. The student must cover the academic expenses of the program of their choice.
