We are pleased to announce that Dr. Narda Henríquez Ayín will receive this year's Life Achievement Award from the Peru Section of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA). Narda Henríquez holds a PhD in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and a BA in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima. She is currently Principal Professor of the Department of Social Sciences and Director of the Doctorate in Sociology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Previously, she was Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Sociology and founder of the Gender Studies Program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Dean of the Colegion Nacional de Sociólogos del Peru, and researcher of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
She is the author of numerous academic publications in several languages, among which we can mention the following books: Otras pieles. Género, cultura e historia (1995), Encrucijadas del saber. Los estudios de género en las ciencias sociales (1996), Construyendo una agenda social (1999), Imaginarios nacionales. Algunas proposiciones desde el centro y la periferia (2001), El hechizo de las imágenes. Estatus social, género y etnicidad en la historia peruana (2001), Ciudadanía y derechos en una nueva era: Los derechos económicos y sociales de las mujeres como desafío (2003), Red de redes para la concertación. La experiencia de la Mesa de Concertación para la Lucha contra la Pobreza (2005), Cuestiones de género y poder en el conflicto armado en el Perú (2006), y Desigualdades en un mundo globalizado (2015, editado con Damonte, Braig y Göbel).
The "Premio al Legado y la Trayectoria 2018" of LASA's Peru Section is a recognition of her academic and professional career, and her important contribution to the understanding of the national reality, particularly with regard to the study of the ways in which social, economic and political inequalities specifically affect women, violating their human rights; as well as the study of the organization and active participation of women in contexts of economic precariousness and political violence. From the Peru Section of LASA we want to give public recognition to this remarkable academic and professional trajectory of national and international renown evidenced in the development and publication of important research works, in its leadership role in the development of gender studies in Peru -an essential aspect of social analysis- and in its commitment to the training of several generations of social scientists in the country.
The award ceremony will take place at the annual meeting of the Peru Section, within the framework of the LASA 2018 International Congress in Barcelona.
