“Impactos de la pandemia en la democracia boliviana: Percepciones, amenazas y perspectivas”
Virtual event organized by the trAndeS network and IDEA Internacional Bolivia
This event will present the research carried out by the International IDEA office in Bolivia during the year 2020, which analyzes the impact of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 on democratic institutions in Bolivia and the response capacity from the departmental public management based on the perception of different actors interviewed. In addition, it explores the alternatives that arise from the crisis to improve the quality and resilience of Bolivian democracy.
The study is based on qualitative and quantitative information collected between July and September 2020 through surveys of 205 civil society activists in 5 departments: Beni, Cochabamba, La Paz, Santa Cruz and Tarija. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 decision-makers in the autonomous governments of the aforementioned departments, 26 national experts on democracy and development issues and 10 focus groups of deliberation.
Speakers: Gustavo Bonifaz (Independent Researcher) and Sergio Lea Plaza (International IDEA Bolivia).
